Purlisse- Blue Lotus Seed Mud Mask + Exfoliant Review

A few weekends ago, I attended the Generation Beauty show in Toronto. I was so excited to see Purlisse as an exhibitor. With my Ipsy subscription, I had the opportunity to try Blue Lotus + White Tea treatment sheet mask sheets and fell in love with this Asian inspired brand. Not only did they give us some great samples during the event such as the Daily moisturizer and BB tinted cream but there was also an opportunity to buy some of their products.

I decided to purchase the Blue Lotus Seed Mud Mask + Exfoliant for $30 Canadian (special event price). The Mud Mask + Exfoliant is one of their latest product. The retail price is $52 US which is a bit high for Canadians as our dollar is not very good.  However, I was amazed with the results and I highly recommend it.

I have a combination skin where my T zone (forehead, nose, and chin) is drier during the winter and oilier during the summer, so multi masking is sometime my best bet. Since I can be lazy, I do like finding products that I can apply all over my face. Sometime a girl just doesn’t want to apply different masks to target specific areas of concerns!

No surprise there that I was so happy to find out that this Mud mask is perfect for all skin types including sensitive. No multi-masking required, YES!!! What else could I have asked for! This mask did not leave my skin dry or irritated, on the contrary, I got an amazing glow, my skin felt so smooth and my pores were clean. The mask helped me to even out my skin texture and took care of those little hormonal breakouts. Should this product be renamed to Fairy Godmother from Cinderella?! I think so!

This 2 in 1 mask + exfoliant is so smooth and easy to apply. After cleaning your skin, you apply a thin layer of the product on your face and you let it dry for 10-15 minutes.  When the mask is set you can remove it with warm water in circular motion near a sink or if you are like me you can hop in a warm shower so you don’t have to worry about making a mess on the counter. I always end up making a mess on the counter when removing face masks! Once you start to feel the mask fading away with the warm water, you start to feel mini beads that are exfoliating your skin. It is such a nice sensation. Make sure to keep that circular motion going until they are all gone. Your skin is now refreshed and ready for the day!

Purlisse recommend using this mask 2-3 times a week. As it is a bit pricey for Canadians, I personally like to use it every week as a royal pampering treatment. I do use other exfoliating products during the week that are a bit less expensive but none of them compare to this product.

I am so glad that I decided to try this new product as the Blue Lotus Seed Mud Mask + Exfoliant is now part of beauty routine.

A girl’s best makeup companion- Nivea 2-in-1 Moisturizing Primer for Normal Skin

20170316_171459I have loved makeup for as long as I can remember and took a makeup artistry certification in 2015.  I was blown away by all the steps you should take when applying makeup on a client and understanding their skin tone and concerns. Before taking theses classes, I was only using a face moisturizer and adding a powder foundation. I didn’t understand what I needed to do in order to get similar results to women that I found beautiful in fashion magazine. Boy did I come a long way! (Side mention, makeup in my opinion is an artistic outlet and a way to enhance the natural beauty in each of us. My opinion is in no way to condemn the only use of moisturizer and powder foundation together. Every one should be free to use makeup as they wish.)

If some of you don’t know (as some times it is not very clear why certain products should be used and what is the right order to use them) a primer should be applied after the moisturizer in order to smooth out the surface of the skin. In order words, you want your canvas to be as even as possible to have the best results. Today, there are various kinds of primers on the market for different skin concerns such as dry skin, sensitive, pore minimizer, mattifying effect and much more. A good primer should also extend the life of your makeup and keep it in place. If you are not sure what type of primer you should use, look at you skin in the morning and at night. Was your skin flaky? Did your T-zone start to get oily? Did you notice large pores around your nose, chin or cheeks? If you are unsure, you can always talk so a skin or makeup specialist and they can help you choose the best product for your skin.

A few weeks ago, I decided to join Chick Advisor. Chick Advisor is a product review club where you have the opportunity, after answering short surveys, to be selected for a product campaign. I was one of the lucky women to be selected to review the new Nivea 2-in-1 Moisturizing Primer for Normal Skin. I received my free product Thursday March 16th 2017 and not only did this product surpass my expectation but it is now my best every day makeup companion.

I am usually not a fan of the 2-in-1 or 3-in-1 or 10-in-1 type of products. I always like to choose single types of items as sometimes the multi-purpose ones are not as effective as they either don’t target as specific need or the ingredients are not as impactful. Nivea 2-in-1 Moisturizing Primer for Normal Skin definitively proved me wrong.

This product package mentions that it is “enriched with Vitamin E & Natural Lotus Extract: provides an even and smooth base for effective makeup application and helps your makeup look greater for longer; instantly absorbs thanks to its ultra-lightweight texture; non-greasy formula provides long-lasting moisturization and fresh skin feeling”.

After testing the product for 3 days in a row, I am happy to report that the application of this scented primer is very light, smooth and dries quite fast. The primer helped to moisturize my skin but also helped me to create the perfect canvas for my makeup application. You can see my first reaction to the moisturizing primer on my Instagram account (@Elle.Stephanie).

In the past, some primers made my skin cakier, oilier or made me breakout after a using them a few days. This Nivea primer kept my skin well balanced and didn’t make my skin breakout! The only aspect that I noticed after wearing it for 10 hours is that my forehead became just a little bit more shiny (which so far I have not yet found a primer that last for 12 hours). I do get this result faster if I don’t wear primer.

I would also like to point out the packaging of the product.  Nivea added a picture on the side of the box of the real product size. I was quite surprised, but they got the picture perfectly as the container is indeed the exact same size.  I also love how Nivea designed the container. It is very fresh, young, and I also like how there’s the little line of blue to differentiate the product from the sensitive skin one which would be pink.

In my opinion, Nivea came out with the perfect formula for 2-in-1 primer. I highly recommend it and I strongly believe that it will become every girl’s best makeup companion.
