A girl’s best makeup companion- Nivea 2-in-1 Moisturizing Primer for Normal Skin

20170316_171459I have loved makeup for as long as I can remember and took a makeup artistry certification in 2015.  I was blown away by all the steps you should take when applying makeup on a client and understanding their skin tone and concerns. Before taking theses classes, I was only using a face moisturizer and adding a powder foundation. I didn’t understand what I needed to do in order to get similar results to women that I found beautiful in fashion magazine. Boy did I come a long way! (Side mention, makeup in my opinion is an artistic outlet and a way to enhance the natural beauty in each of us. My opinion is in no way to condemn the only use of moisturizer and powder foundation together. Every one should be free to use makeup as they wish.)

If some of you don’t know (as some times it is not very clear why certain products should be used and what is the right order to use them) a primer should be applied after the moisturizer in order to smooth out the surface of the skin. In order words, you want your canvas to be as even as possible to have the best results. Today, there are various kinds of primers on the market for different skin concerns such as dry skin, sensitive, pore minimizer, mattifying effect and much more. A good primer should also extend the life of your makeup and keep it in place. If you are not sure what type of primer you should use, look at you skin in the morning and at night. Was your skin flaky? Did your T-zone start to get oily? Did you notice large pores around your nose, chin or cheeks? If you are unsure, you can always talk so a skin or makeup specialist and they can help you choose the best product for your skin.

A few weeks ago, I decided to join Chick Advisor. Chick Advisor is a product review club where you have the opportunity, after answering short surveys, to be selected for a product campaign. I was one of the lucky women to be selected to review the new Nivea 2-in-1 Moisturizing Primer for Normal Skin. I received my free product Thursday March 16th 2017 and not only did this product surpass my expectation but it is now my best every day makeup companion.

I am usually not a fan of the 2-in-1 or 3-in-1 or 10-in-1 type of products. I always like to choose single types of items as sometimes the multi-purpose ones are not as effective as they either don’t target as specific need or the ingredients are not as impactful. Nivea 2-in-1 Moisturizing Primer for Normal Skin definitively proved me wrong.

This product package mentions that it is “enriched with Vitamin E & Natural Lotus Extract: provides an even and smooth base for effective makeup application and helps your makeup look greater for longer; instantly absorbs thanks to its ultra-lightweight texture; non-greasy formula provides long-lasting moisturization and fresh skin feeling”.

After testing the product for 3 days in a row, I am happy to report that the application of this scented primer is very light, smooth and dries quite fast. The primer helped to moisturize my skin but also helped me to create the perfect canvas for my makeup application. You can see my first reaction to the moisturizing primer on my Instagram account (@Elle.Stephanie).

In the past, some primers made my skin cakier, oilier or made me breakout after a using them a few days. This Nivea primer kept my skin well balanced and didn’t make my skin breakout! The only aspect that I noticed after wearing it for 10 hours is that my forehead became just a little bit more shiny (which so far I have not yet found a primer that last for 12 hours). I do get this result faster if I don’t wear primer.

I would also like to point out the packaging of the product.  Nivea added a picture on the side of the box of the real product size. I was quite surprised, but they got the picture perfectly as the container is indeed the exact same size.  I also love how Nivea designed the container. It is very fresh, young, and I also like how there’s the little line of blue to differentiate the product from the sensitive skin one which would be pink.

In my opinion, Nivea came out with the perfect formula for 2-in-1 primer. I highly recommend it and I strongly believe that it will become every girl’s best makeup companion.

Ipsy Review: My 2017 March Glam Bag

Hello and welcome back!

Here are the 5 items I received in my March Glam Bag. Don’t forget to follow me to receive my latest posts by email.

20170314_163257

Ladykin- Affinitic Snail Cream

  • Snail cream…… what is snail cream and why would I want to put it on my skin. I was a bit thrown off when I received this product as I dislike snails. I decided to do a bit more research on this type of product before trying it. Snail cream is made from snail secretion. Yes yuck! Their slim is suppose to promote skin regeneration, help to prevent and reduce acne as well as fine lines. Now back to the product. Ladykin packaged this cream in a very cute snail container. I was very curious to know if the snail cream would have a different odour. I am glad to report that it smells just like any other face creams! I have not yet decided to put this product on my face but I did try it on my hands. It is very light, almost silky and left my hands as smooth as a baby’s butt. Maybe I will work the courage to try it on my face! Did you receive this product? Have you tried it on your face?

INT Cosmetics- Eyeshadow in Goddess Gold

  • This eyeshadow is simply stunning! It is a nice rose20170315_120627 gold colour and is very easy to apply. I always use similar colour for my natural day look. After trying it, I realized that it was very close to All that glitter from Mac cosmetics ($16- top swatch) and to NYX Perfect Filter Golden Hour (3rd shade, first row, 10 colours palette $20- bottom swatch). Out of the 3, the shade from INT Cosmetic (middle swatch) is now my favorite one as it is more pigmented. I am so happy that I received this eye shadow and I highly recommend it! Tip: Use an eye primer to get even more pigmentation and tap the product on with a compact brush.

Tarte cosmetics -Tarteist™ quick dry matte lip paint in delish

20170315_114129

  • I requested to receive this specific shade in my glam bag. The ipsiers had the opportunity to either receive the shade rosé, delish or vibin. In order to make a decision on which colour I wanted, I searched online swatches and example of other girls wearing it. It seemed like delish was a nice deep pink which to my surprise, was much darker with a slight redish/orange undertone when I received it. I love almost any lip colour so I decided to match it with a beautiful blush from Annabelle cosmetics (06-33-003). To get a perfect pout, I recommend applying it with a pointed lip brush or line your lips as this lipstick dries very quickly.

Chella- Tweezers

  • What to say about this product…. It is very bright, has a large handle and I will not loose it in my makeup collection! At this point, I am not convinced that a larger handle is easier to use. The tweezers do work well and can remove small hair. However, it will not replace my favorite Revlon tweezers.

Eva NYC- Mane Magic 10-in-1 Primer

  • I am not usually a big fan of hair primer as I feel they dry my hair more than help but I did enjoy this one. Not only did it smelled amazing, it helped to untangled my crazy curly hair and made my hair shinier. Nevertheless, I would not buy this product as it’s a nice to have but not need to have in my opinion. I love my Dove curly hair mousse and I don’t need to use an additional product with it.  Have you tried this product? What is your opinion? Would you buy it again?

I would rate this March bag a 3.5 stars!

I received some great products but the snail cream, tweezers and primer will not be part of my day-to-day routine.

What is your opinion of the March Glam Bag?

Casa Loma- Escape room

Escape rooms are one of the best activity to do with your friends or on a second or third date. My fiancé tried an escape room with one of his guy friends and fell in love with the game. He’s been wanting to do more ever since. We’ve been to a few locations within Toronto with our double date couples and always had a great time.

However, since I am always looking for something new and more exciting, I wanted to find an escape room that would bring us closer to a real-case scenario. That’s when I heard about the Escape Casa Loma which bring the original escape room to a much higher level. Not only do you do the rooms with a bigger group (12 people in our case), which I was quite skeptical as there’s always a “leader” and I wasn’t sure if everyone would be able to participate but you have real actors who situate you in a scenario and give you subtle hints.

To ease your questions, everyone was able to participate in their own ways as there are more than one puzzle to complete at the same time. I wont say more as I don’t want to give anything away! Also, in comparison to other escape games, Casa Loma brings you a real sense of décor as you are at night in one or more of the darkest, creepiest, exciting room(s) of the castle.

Want to try it out with your friends? Check them out at Escape Casa Loma https://www.escapecasaloma.com/. Make sure to book in advance as they book very quickly. They also offer various Escape rooms. In our case, we tried the “Escape the Tower” which was a blast. I highly recommend it.

Archery Tag

archery

Archery tag is definitively one of my new favorite sports. This modern game is growing quickly in popularity in Toronto. The mix of dodge ball and archery makes this games quite unique. Instead of throwing balls to eliminate your opponents you must shoot them with a special foam-tipped arrow. Don’t worry, if you never shot an arrow they will teach you at the beginning, and no, if you do get hit, it doesn’t hurt, well it doesn’t hurt that much! (Almost like getting flicked)

There are many locations offering this sport and they all have slight variation of the game. In my experience, I’ve played twice at the Archery Game in Vaughan with a big group of friends. The first time we played, it was my group of friends versus the other group. The second time, the referee divided everyone into 2 groups, you got to meet new people and play against some of your friends. Bring on the competition!

Both type of scenarios was quite fun. I think I even enjoyed shooting my friends better. Each game had a different goal which was either hitting the targets first or eliminating all players of the other team. Some games had players being healers or snippers with special powers once they are in the tower.

If you are interested to try it, I highly recommend going to the Archery Game in Vaughan. You will get to run, shoot arrows, get your adrenaline going and have a blast. It’s a very good workout- wear comfortable clothes!

The Archery Game not only offers archery tag but also offers bubble soccer and kin-ball. Pretty cool no? Check them out! http://www.thearcherygame.com/

Ipsy Review: My February 2017 Glam Bag

Welcome back!

With this review, I hope: 1) you will find some new products to try; 2) give you an idea what you could receive in your subscription.img_20170214_165707_630

This month I received:

  1. Luna By Luna Cosmetics Highlighter in Calypso
    • Beautiful colour, and pigment. I didn’t had this colour in my makeup collection, so I did enjoy receiving it. The colour is very mauvy grey so I suggest applying it very lightly on the cheekbone or with a chisel brush on the eyelid as an eyeshadow.
  2. NYX Professional Makeup Butter™ Lipstick in Ripe Berry
    • This lipstick is so buttery! It is a nice change from the matte lipstick which usually dry out the lips. This one feels very nourishing. The colour is beautiful. I highly recommend it if you are looking for something more light and comfortable.
  3. Elizabeth Mott Whatup Beaches Matte Bronzer
    • I was quite surprised with this matte bronzer. I am usually not a fan of bronzer and found myself loving this shade. It works perfectly on my light skin and doesn’t have the shimmery look.
  4. Luxie Beauty Luxie Rose Gold Blush Brush 514
    • This is a very nice soft brush but not my favorite one from Luxie Beauty.  I like my blush brushes thicker and this one is very light on bristles. However, I do find it perfect to highlight the cheeks.
  5. Biobelle Sheet Masks #StayGorgeous and #Iwokeuplikethis
    • These masks are parabens free, gluten free and with no GMO’s. Only negative feedback is that they are not sold in stores in Canada. The only way to buy them is online through Amazon Prime or the shopping channel.
    • #StayGorgeous is made with almond oil and vitamin E to hydrate and nourish your skin. This mask was perfect for me as my skin has been a bit dry lately with this weather.
    • #Iwokeuplikethis is made with wild rose and vitamin C to enhance the natural glow of the skin. This mask is quite amazing and leave your skin so soft.

This February bag is definitively a 5 stars!

Have you tried theses products? Did you like them?

I would love to know your opinion.
